Guide to Writing Student Papers (Part A)

MasterPen, in its effort to help its students, has drawn up the following rules which must be strictly adhered to when writing their critical evaluation of literature, finding valid secondary sources or conducting primary research and scientifically presenting findings. their. We point out that the following guide is the most complete as it includes both syntactic and grammatical rules which were drawn from renowned linguists (see G. Babiniotis).

How to write Student Papers

To create high-quality student papers you should:

First of all, understand the topic of the paper and consider whether the content of your paper answers the questions of the topic or its main idea.
Find the sources you might use in your work.
Evaluate the sources for their relevance to the topic of the paper.
Check the sources for their reliability.
Choose the most relevant material to use in your work.
Draw up the structure of your assignment based on the material available and the assignment requirements.
Organize job information.

Sentence structure

At the beginning, write the title of the paper or sometimes a subtitle, to specify the topic stated in the title of the paper.
Avoid writing long sentences (which exceed 4-5 lines) but use short sentences clearly.
Use simple and comprehensive sentences that are, however, meaningfully complete (that is, contain a prologue, development and epilogue).
Remember that each sentence contains a subject-verb-object/accusative.

Paragraphs and coherence between paragraphs

Use paragraphs that are neither too short (lacking development) nor too long (exceeding the amount of development required). Make sure that each paragraph contains the main idea and is sufficiently elaborated, but not merely descriptive, as a scientific text must be fully documented without, of course, listing details that are unnecessary.
The work must be characterized by coherence. That is, there should be semantic continuity from paragraph to paragraph and from section to section. Before starting the work, it is necessary to organize the structure of your work through the correct arrangement of the ideas and information collected from the bibliographic sources, so that there is a logical continuity of meanings. In order for there to be a continuous flow, each section, paragraph and sentence must be connected to the previous and subsequent ones. Simply put, the text consists of sentences, paragraphs and sections which must be linked together, arranging the information in a correct and logical order. When you start writing a paragraph or sentence make sure there is a logical continuity with the previous ones by repeating some words or sentences that summarize the meaning of the previous sentence or paragraph. Then, when you want to finish a paragraph or sentence make sure there is a logical continuity with the next ones by using sentences or words that refer to the next sentence or paragraph or summarize the meaning of the next one.
Be careful to finish an argument and then change paragraphs. Paragraphs should not be short, because this breaks up the coherence of your text.

Links to sentences

Cohesion between paragraphs and connecting sentences is not always achieved by using structural words such as: ''also'', ''Furthermore'', ''Furthermore'', ''Consequently'', ''However'', "Therefore", "Therefore", "Therefore", "Well", "On the other hand", "However", "Although", 'Although', 'Nevertheless', 'Given that', 'However', 'Consequently', 'Therefore', 'Consequently', 'For the reason this'', etc.

ATTENTION: Check if these implications actually hold and if e.g. A does indeed lead to B. This means that arguments must be real and not seeming, and you use words like ``consequently'' or ``therefore'' when you have previously stated a real argument.

General rule of sentence and paragraph construction

Do not forget that each paragraph as well as each sentence and each topic has the structure that the whole paper has (introduction, development and conclusion) because both the sentence and the paragraph and the topic study a basic idea. In this case we list the structure of the paragraph but remember that the same rules apply to the structure of the sentences and thematic sections. The structure of the paragraph consists of: a) the prologue of the paragraph (Topic Period) during which the reader is informed about the main idea that will be analyzed in the paragraph, b) the development of the paragraph (details) where details about the main idea of the paragraph are listed thematic period, c) the epilogue of the paragraph (concluding sentence) which seals the paragraph or cites its conclusion.

Footnotes

When you want to complete or clarify or explain some information listed in your text, to avoid breaking the coherence of the meaning of your text, use a footnote. You declare the footnote at the end of the sentence (period), as long as you choose from the menu to cite a footnote and the word is automatically numbered in the form of an exponent.
You list the content of the footnote in the footer (bottom of the page) with the corresponding numbering. You never declare a footnote in the text headings but only in the text!!!
In the footnotes you also do always refer to the source, enclosing in parentheses the author's last name and the date. If you cite an exact quote in the footnote, please include the exact page number from the source from which the quote was taken.
ATTENTION: It is forbidden to use a lot of footnotes in your text, because it creates a negative impression on the reader, as it distracts him.

Wording of the title

Pay attention to the wording of the title. The title should summarize the main idea of the paper and be representative, concise, accurate and complete (and should not exceed 12 words).

Abstract

Briefly describe (length 100 – 150 words for semester papers, 250 words for graduate and valid, original and 350 words for doctoral dissertations), the main points of the paper (aim, research problem, methodology, findings, results, conclusions). The summary is written after the work is completed and should not exceed one page. You must use only punctuation and not 1.5 as used in the main body of the work.

Keywords

Write down up to 5 key words (terms) that characterize the topic of the work.

In the introduction, summarize the main points of the paper in order to give the reader a clear picture of the subject and the topic of the paper. In simple words, in the introduction analyze the table of contents without expanding into arguments and positions. More specifically, in the introduction you must briefly present the subject matter of the paper in question, the theoretical background of the paper including key definitions and terms from the literature, the purpose and objectives of the paper, the methodology of the paper, and the research questions you are invited to answer.

Main part (body of the text)

Be careful in the body to develop your arguments from paragraph to paragraph and from section to section in an inductive manner. This means that the transition from one part of the text to another must be characterized by a logical continuity of meanings (information, arguments, positions and opinions) without gaps and repetitions.

Create a list of the contents of the paper in the following order: introduction, chapters, subsections, conclusions, bibliography, appendices, recording the page corresponding to each. In the table of contents you do not refer to the contents of the appendix or appendices. You simply write the word Appendix, or if there are many, write Appendix A, Appendix B, etc. Then you list the tables, charts, graphs, and figures contained in the paper, noting the page that corresponds to each.
In the table of contents the suggested numbering is first, second and third level. That is: 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, 2, 2.1, 2.2.2 and so on.

Annex

If the reader needs to be referred to the appendix to study a table or figure or figure, etc., this should be indicated in the flow of the text. Example: "as set out in Annex II" or "….as set out in Annex A".
Insert in the appendix all the tables, images, diagrams, questionnaires, research data, etc. that cannot be listed in the main body of the text in order not to break its coherence.
The appendix is usually a in semester papers while there are more in bachelor's, diploma and doctoral theses.
Number the appendices at the end of the work either with letters (APPENDIX A) or with numbers (APPENDIX 1).
